Lyrics
Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.

Chorus:
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
(Repeat Chorus)

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
(Repeat Chorus)

Scripture References
Lamentations 3:22-23

Behind the Song
In a letter dated 1941, Thomas O. Chisholm wrote that although his income has not been enough due to his impaired health, he must record the unfailing faithfulness of God for the “wonderful displays of His providing care” and for which he is “filled with astonishing gratefulness.”

Sweet Comfort
Words & Music by Cameron Gray

Oh sweet comfort, can I call you my own?
Will you let me lay my aching head on your breastbone?
Can I crawl inside your arms and make myself a home?
Oh sweet comfort, come for me.

Come on, sweet comfort, won’t you pick up the phone?
Tonight I’m broke and drunk and sad and sleeping all alone
Can I lay with you when all my other lovers go?
Oh sweet comfort, come for me.

Come on, dark night, lay your skin over me
Come on, bright dawn, break your fist across my cheek
When I’m sure I’ve broken every promise left to break
Oh sweet comfort, come for me.

Last Night

May 11th, 2009 | Comments

Act 1, Scene 1. 2AM, a darkened bedroom in the Gray household.

Me: [startled awake by creepy dream] Ah!
Mellie: [groggy] What’s wrong?
Me: [shaky voice] Ick. Bad dream.
Mellie: Mmm.
Me: [snuggling closer] It was really bad. I need to be comforted.
Mellie: Well don’t tell it to me. I don’t want to be scared. [falls asleep]
Me: [lies awake, staring at the partially-opened closet door]

Fade to black.

Your Love Oh Lord/Doxology Medley

May 4th, 2009 | Comments

The “Doxology” lyrics and melody can be sung over the same chords as the verse of “Your Love, Oh Lord”, creating a nice medley.

Thy Love & Thy Power

Words & Music
©2005 Rough Harbor Music . Words & Music: Cameron Gray.

Lyrics
O, Lamb of God, for sinners slain,
I read my pardon in Thy wounds,
In chapters flowing from Thy veins.
Love and power prevailing for me,
O, Thy mercy and and Thy justice—
Perfectly met upon that tree.

Alleluia, I believe—
Thy love and Thy power prevailing for me,
Thy love and Thy power prevailing for me,
Prevailing for me, prevailing for me.

Withhold Thy grace and I shall die,
My best efforts all are vain,
Justly condemned, both out and in;
Love and power prevailing for me,
O my Hope, Thy promise mine—
In Thee I rest forever free.

There Is A Fountain

There Is A Fountain
Words: William Cowper,1772.

There is fountain filled with blood
Drawn from Emmanuel’s veins;
And sinners plunged beneath that flood
Lose all their guilty stains.
And sinners plunged beneath that flood
Lose all their guilty stains.

The dying thief rejoiced to see
That fountain in his day;
And there may I, though vile as he,
Wash all my sins away.
And there may I, though vile as he,
Wash all my sins away.

Dear dying Lamb, Thy precious blood
Shall never lose its power
’Til all the ransomed church of God
Be saved to sin no more.
’Til all the ransomed church of God
Be saved to sin no more.

E’er since, by faith, I saw the stream
Thy flowing wounds supply,
Redeeming love has been my theme,
And shall be ’til I die.
Redeeming love has been my theme,
And shall be ’til I die.

Sovereign Grace O’er Sin Abounding

May 4th, 2009 | Comments

Words & Music
Words: John Kent. Music: Sandra McCracken.
©2001 Same Old Dress Music (ASCAP). CCLI #4301154

Lyrics
Sovereign grace o’er sin abounding!
Ransomed souls, the tidings swell;
‘Tis a deep that knows no sounding;
Who its breadth or length can tell?
On its glories,
May my soul forever dwell.

What from Christ that soul can sever,
Bound by everlasting bands?
Once in Him, in Him forever;
Thus the eternal covenant stands.
None shall take Thee
From the Strength of Israel’s hands.

Heirs of God, joint-heirs with Jesus,
Long ere time its race begun;
To His name eternal praises;
O what wonders love has done!
One with Jesus,
By eternal union one

On such love, my soul, still ponder,
Love so great, so rich, so free;
Say, while lost in holy wonder,
Why, O Lord, such love to me?
Hallelujah! Grace shall reign
Hallelujah! Grace shall reign
Hallelujah! Grace shall reign eternally

Scripture References
Deut 32:10, Romans 8:17

Behind the Song
Read a memoir of John Kent’s life.

Quotes from John Kent’s deathbed:
“We must all appear before the judgment-seat of Christ, to give an account of the deeds done in the body, whether they be good or bad. That portion has cut me to the heart; while at the same time it has been my hope. If I am to stand by myself to yield an account, I am lost—lost for ever! But I know it is the judgment-seat of Christ; he is my surety, and has paid all demands. I shall be tried there by a covenant of grace, and not a covenant of works. Blessed be God for his great salvation.”

“The best obedience of my hands
Dare not appear before Thy throne;
But faith can answer Thy demands,
By pleading what my Lord hath done.”

(Singing William Cowper’s hymn, There Is A Fountain):
“Til all the ransomed church of God be saved to sin no more”

Final words:
“I am accepted—accepted.”

On his deathbed, John Kent confessed that he had often been tempted to suicide and self-destruction, but had found the best defense from these attacks and the sweetest balm for every wound was Hebrews 2:18: Because Jesus himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

John Kent, Jr:
“The melody of the heart is the best melody, and singing with the spirit and with the understanding, the sweetest employ.”
